Book Two in the USA Today bestselling Magnolia Steele Mystery series by New York Times bestselling author Denise Grover Swank.

For as long as Magnolia Steele can remember, the past has had its hooks in her. Her time as a Broadway actress in New York City was an escape that ended in public humiliation, but now that she’s back home in Franklin, Tennessee, she’s feeling the grip of the two incidents that stole her innocence. The first was the disappearance of her father when she was a teen, who left home for a meeting and never came back. The other incident...well, her memories have returned, but it's best left where it belongs—in the past.
Hoping for closure, Magnolia decides to look into her daddy’s cold case. Though the town gossips are convinced he ran away with his client’s wife and money, she has always suspected foul play. Talking to a few of his old acquaintances seems harmless enough—until the man she’s arranged to meet turns up dead. There’s evidence someone murdered him to keep him quiet, and she realizes that whatever conspiracy her father was mixed up in is far from over; it’s entering its second act.

If Magnolia keeps digging, she's not sure she can trust her own momma to help her, let alone her new friends and the police detective who’s eager to woo her, but after years of running, she’s ready to stand her ground.

Builds well on the first installation. Aside from the required summary of the first book, as is needed in all series, it moves along well. The characters are engaging and the mystery sucked me in until the wee hours every night until I finished.
  • Another incredible book!

Wow! This is an incredible book. I loved it and didn't want it to end. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. The writing is spectacular and the characters continue to have depth. Is a mystery within a mystery, so I encourage you to read all in the series, to get the best impact of the story. I still haven't been able to figure out who did it before the end of the books. It's so worth your time to read. This is a clean story.

  • Trust no one

Once again Denise has done it again!! I absolutely love Magnolia. After Magnolia returns back from NY humiliated and friendless she has found some new friends and a very small circle that she can trust....but can she risk to trust them at all? From the very beginning this book was a page turner and fast paced. It was very difficult to put this book down when "mommy duty" called and all in all honesty I wanted to dive back into the book to see what secrets were being uncovered. Denise does such an amazing job writing and describing scenes which allows the readers to feel like they are in a crowded smoky bar or at a concert surrounded by concertgoers or in a dark room...... I am loving the person that Magnolia is starting to grow into and I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens in Call Back. I am highly anticipating the next book!!!
  • Act 2 is an engrossing mystery

************4.5 Star Review********** Wow all I have to say is I trust no one. I think this town has some pretty dark secrets and I don't trust anyone other then Magnolia. I think everyone has an agenda and it all ties back to what happened to Magnolia when she was a teenager. Magnolia has decided she is tired of running from her past. She has spent so much time being someone else that she is willing to take the steps to start over. As she decides to stay in Franklin to amend her relationship with her mother, she can't but help but to start digging into the disappearance of her farther. As Magnolia is desperate to prove her father did not abandoned the family she stumbles into something bigger than she anticipated and someone or someone's seemed to being willing to hurt or murder anyone to keep their secret. The book keeps you on your toes and as you get know all the major players you start to realize you might not be able to trust everyone. It seems everyone has some agenda and you are not entirely sure they have Magnolia's best interest in mind. I also loved getting to see Magnolia start to come into her own. For far to long she has been playing at life and not being herself for fear of crumbling. She has always ran when things got tough and learned to play a part to just survive. As she makes the decision not to run, she finally starts to let her walls down, hopefully it doesn't burn her in the end. Act 2 is such an engrossing mystery and I can't wait for the next installment!

The story is intriguing and witty and kept me wanting more. I'm still processing many things answered, yet so many more questions. I absolutely love Magnolia. And Brady....where can I find me one. I will be impatiently waiting for the third book to come out next year.
