Description

The #1 New York Times bestseller—a thrilling new romance from E L James, author of the phenomenal bestselling Fifty Shades Trilogy.

London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face.

But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past.  Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own?

From the heart of London through wild, rural Cornwall to the bleak, forbidding beauty of the Balkans, The Mister is a roller-coaster ride of danger and desire that leaves the reader breathless to the very last page.

I’ve always been a E.L.James and I had been looking for a good read so I decided to give this a go. I am so glad I did! I did not put this book dook down until it was finished. The Mister definitely isn’t Fifty Shade, but its still just as good. It was refreshing to see something different from E.L.James and I’m defiantly looking forward/hoping for a sequel!
  • Bland and long winded at best...

As usual E.L. James disappoints. For all the fuss surrounding her releases, her stories lack substance. There isn’t be 30 pages describing a boring sex scene that reads like a conversation with a prude friend who can’t seem to find the courage use her big girl words and tell you like an adult about a sexual encounter. I found myself skipping pages looking to get back to the story. The character are presented as glamorous, and you expect a story about high society and the complexity of the relationships, but you just get a lot of fluff and blah, blah, blah. Pointless, and that’s being kind. This story makes no impression.

This was good read, the characters were easy to understand and the story continued to build. Just when you think there’s going to be this beautiful ending of how the characters will spend the rest of their lives the book just ends abruptly. It’s really weird, I feel like there was so much more to this story. It feels incomplete. Maybe there’s a second book, one can only guess. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This book has everything! It’s hot but not too much, kept me intrigue by the magnitude of the events that involved the characters, romance. Can’t wait to see what would happen next.
  • Literally the worst book

Literally the worst book I’ve ever read. So boring. No substance. At least 50 shades was entertaining... this was NOT.
  • Not straying far from Fifty Shades plot

The same premise as Fifty Shades, but instead of 3 books it is crammed into one without nearly as much angst or suspense. Disadvantaged girl meets extremely wealthy man, angst, love, a conflict involving another man wanting the girl, overcoming that and then a happy ending. Was hoping for more storyline diversity.
  • Wanted to like it - but it was really bad

Pre-ordered and ignored the reviews. Really wanted to like it but it was hard. I skimmed a lot and for a higher priced book that stinks. -Heroine is interesting with an interesting story. Hero - not remotely interesting, in fact he’s kind of gross. I wanted to quit reading for the first 30%. Sex with other women, heroine cleaning up his used condoms and seeing another woman. That’s not romance and could have been left out. Sure he became a great guy later but his turn around is too fast to be believed. He’s a child trapped in a mans body. Then the ending is abrupt. No epilogue, just this crescendo and then done. Over. We didn’t get anything resolved with him and Caroline - who the heroine will be faced with often...ouch and yuck. And then no resolution on a bright future for the heroine and her music. No idea how they will work their future out and how he leaves his pathetic former life behind because that sure doesn’t work with her. This is also weeks after the brothers death and so much is unresolved there with his emotions. Just nothing. Overall I enjoyed the music aspect and this author can absolutely write but this was boring. There I said it. Aside from the little bit of action we get and that felt forced at times. It was boring and if this had been a lesser known author I would have DNF, but I like this author personally and her other series so i kept going. Ultimately the “hero” of this book is just awful and not someone a reader can cheer for. Had he been given some interesting background or anything really - we could have. Also the switching between POV with alternating first and third person was very distracting. I feel like whoever she used as a beta reader editorial beta could have really steered this better and let her down. It had such potential but in the end I feel like he’s still gross, she’s still too naive, it dragged and there is too much unresolved. So many missed opportunities for this story. This book totally bombed for me. If more come in the series, if it is a series I won’t be buying.
