Mia Murphy mystery series #4. Cozy mystery. Best read in series order, but this can be read as a stand-alone. After moving to a small coastal town in Maine, Mia Murphy is just about to reopen her rehabbed Marina. To celebrate Hattie’s birthday, Mia, Lucy and Hattie take a short vacation and travel to a small island where a body is found in a hot tub, killed with knitting needles. The women investigate, stirring up all kinds of trouble from a trunk full of money, to a notorious trickster showing up, another death, and the FBI getting in kissing range. Mia is on the spot. Can she solve the twisted clues or does the wrong person go to jail? Wacky amateur murder solving friendships make this group of women entertaining to follow as they stumble over clues, and outsmart the police again and again. The supporting men are enthusiastically enamored with the women and let them do their worst. Enjoyable and amusing.
  • Fun and funny-the perfect upbeat book!

What a hoot! If you enjoy the Stephanie Plum or Miss Fortune books, you are going to love Mia Murphy! Fun and funny, this is the perfect upbeat book to add to your list. And it's something more, too. Mia is a three-dimensional character, with real feelings and real responses to them. And her friends are there for it, and for her. Not this this gets heavy -it's definitely a fun read- but I love that the characters and story aren't just fluff entertainment (not that there's anything wrong with that).

This is the first book I read in the Mia Murphy saga and having read others reviews I am not disappointed. Fun, quirky, and solving murders when Mia affectionately nicknamed Corpse Whisperer goes on a girls retreat for her best friend Hattie to attend her cousin Thelma’s birthday party and yes - they find dead bodies. But Hattie, Lucy and Mia are the scooby gang on the case to solve who is the killer. Comedic Murder Mystery with a love triangle as Mia has two men vying for her attention. I like that this novel can act as a standalone and doesn’t need the previous books to understand what is going on. I received a complimentary copy from BookFunnel to voluntarily leave an honest review.

Stephanie Rowe gets this story off to a fast start, and then hits hyper speed with few slower moments until the end. I had to read it straight through, so I feel a little like Mia at the end - I’m still processing! But it is good, the cast of core characters grow and evolve so it hits on more than just the mystery and comedic values. You’ll want to read it yourself! Most of anything else I’d like to say would be spoilerish, and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, so I’ll leave it at that. Oh, and where can I get a cat just like King Tut?! Freaking AWESOME! I received a free ARC copy of the book and am giving my honest review.

  • Girls weekend

Lucy, Hattie, and Mia set off on a girls weekend. It’s just what Mia needs a few days to spend with her girlfriends relaxing at a resort on the beach. Things start off on the wrong foot when Mia takes a tumble into the ocean before they even reach the island. When Mia and her friends get together there is never a dull moment. Dead bodies, climbing out of windows, alcohol-induced singing it may not be the relaxing weekend that Mia had imagine but when you have your best friends with you then it doesn’t matter. “It’s ok to be afraid. But it’s not okay to miss out on life because of fear.” I love this trio of women. They are a force to be reckoned with and I want to be just like them when I grow up!! Empowering other women to be ballsy, fiery, strong no matter how old or young.

Mia Murphy and her best friends are so fun to read in this hilarious, heartwarming and remarkably deep cozy mystery. The three sleuths are witty and endearing characters who are also real, relatable and lovable people who have flaws and some deep wounds, but are really just trying to do their best as messy humans. Real unfiltered life is hard sometimes. We all need some feel good, ridiculous, girl-powered, supportive friends, found family, hilarity in our lives and that’s the hole Mia Murphy books fill. I loved this latest installment of Mia trying unsuccessfully to live her life drama free. Mia, who is stressed preparing her marina for the grand reopening, along with her best friends Lucy and Hattie, decide to go to a resort in Maine for a weekend of pampering. Despite her best attempts to not be, Mia is always smack dab in the middle of murder, mystery, hilariously absurd messes, light danger, and mild love life drama. Upon arriving at the resort for their pampering weekend, a dead body is discovered in Hattie’s cousin Thelma’s hot tub stabbed with her knitting needles. So, of course, Mia and her friends are going to investigate the murder to help prove Thelma’s innocence. And thus begins their amateur investigation complete with all the witty banter, ridiculous shenanigans, and long list of potential suspects. The relationships between the friends and Mia’s internal monologues - which vacillate between absurd, panicky, justifying, andreasonable, and healing - make the story. I will continue to be here for all the Mia Murphy stories. This is the unputdownable book I needed in my life.
